A Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) is a document that allows a person who is inadmissible to Canada, or who does not meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA), to enter or remain in Canada temporarily. TRPs are issued at the discretion of an immigration officer, and are typically granted for humanitarian and compassionate reasons, or for reasons of public policy.
To be eligible for a TRP, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be currently in Canada or at a port of entry to Canada.
- Be inadmissible to Canada, but have a valid reason to stay in Canada.
- Be a danger to neither public health nor safety.
