Canada Temporary Work Permit
Canada Temporary Work Permit
One of the most common ways to work in Canada temporarily is through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). The TFWP allows employers in Canada to hire foreign workers to fill jobs that cannot be filled by Canadians or permanent residents.
Canada Temporary Work Permit Eligibility
The eligibility requirements for a temporary work permit in Canada vary depending on the type of work permit you are applying for. However, some general eligibility requirements include:
- Being at least 18 years old.
- Having a valid passport.
- Meeting the health and security requirements.
- Having a job offer from a Canadian employer.
In addition to the general eligibility requirements, there may be specific eligibility requirements for the type of work permit you are applying for. For example, to be eligible for an IEC work permit, you must be a citizen of a participating country and be between the ages of 18 and 35.
Canada Temporary Work Permit Requirements
The required documentation for a temporary work permit application also varies depending on the type of work permit you are applying for. However, some general required documentation includes:
- A copy of your passport.
- A copy of your job offer.
- A completed work permit application form.
- Proof of payment of the application fee.
In addition to the general required documentation, there may be specific required documentation for the type of work permit you are applying for. For example, if you are applying for an employer-specific work permit, you may need to provide a copy of your Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
Types
There are a number of different types of temporary work permits in Canada, including:
- Open work permit: An open work permit allows you to work for any employer in Canada in any occupation. Open work permits are typically issued to spouses and common-law partners of Canadian citizens and permanent residents, as well as to refugees and victims of human trafficking.
- Employer-specific work permit: An employer-specific work permit ties you to a specific employer and occupation. This type of work permit is typically issued to foreign workers who have a job offer from a Canadian employer.
- Sector-specific work permit: A sector-specific work permit allows you to work in a specific sector, such as agriculture or healthcare. This type of work permit is typically issued to foreign workers who have the skills and experience required for a specific job in a designated sector.
- International Experience Canada (IEC) work permit: An IEC work permit allows young people from participating countries to work and travel in Canada for up to 12 months. This type of work permit is typically issued to foreign workers who are between the ages of 18 and 35 and who want to experience living and working in Canada.
Processing times
The processing time for a temporary work permit application varies depending on the type of work permit you are applying for and the workload of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). However, most applications are processed within a few weeks.
